Dear colleagues,
This symposium is organized by the Uruguayan Society of Nephrology and has
been defined taking into account the recent statements of the President of
the ISN, Dr. William Couser (ISN News, Number 15, August 2005).
. According to Dr. Couser, three phenomena are converging that promise to be the most important events in the history and development of nephrology: 1) the ever increasing number of ESRD patients around the world, 2) the recent recognition that CKD is a powerful risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease and 3) the awareness that efforts to provide early detection and treatment of CKD can dramatically reduce progression to ESRD but also the risk of cardiovascular disease, and death.
The aims of the Symposium are to encourage nephrologists to implement programs for detecion and prevention of HA, diabetes, and CKD and to contribute to communicate the magnitude of the problem to communities and to governments worldwide.
Participants will be encouraged to present their experiences and results on early diagnosis and prevention of CKD. There will also be a poster session.
The symposium will be targeted towards nephrologists in general, but also towards health authorities, health care workers, general practitioners, diabetes and cardiovascular physicians.
We invite you to share your experiences and to enjoy Punta del Este, the most important seaside resort in Uruguay where many beautiful places can be visited.
